The answer is very straightforward No. Rocket League is my fav and one of the most played car soccer games on the PC platform. Hold on! the real question is, why was Rocket League pulled out from Steam? Will rocket league ever make a comeback to Steam? How can old players access the game? And how can new players download Rocket League? There are probably a lot of questions on your mind. Here, I’m going to answer every single doubt of yours about Rocket League in this blog post.
The new trend in the gaming industry is that developers are trying really hard to sell their games on their own platforms. Now it’s going to be a little chaos to launch the game. Like if you are planning to play the Battlefield, you need an Epic Games launcher. Or if you wanna play Skull and Bones, you must have Origin.
Is it annoying? Obviously, it’s kinda frustrating as well. It just makes the process of playing games a little longer. Every gamer wants their gaming library under the same roof and Steam is pretty good for it.
Why Rocket League was removed from Steam?
Steam is truly a good platform for consumers like us to download games. But the platform is not friendly to the developers, as they charge a 30% cut for every game purchase. That’s the only reason why major gaming brands are using their own platforms to sell their games so they can avoid the high commission fees of Steam.
Not only this, there are a few more reasons why Rocket League was pulled from Steam.
1. Epic Games acquires Psyonix
The first reason was that Epic Games announced the acquisition of Psyonix for 300 million dollars. After the deal, Epic Games removed the game from the Steam Store and listed it on their official Epic Games Store, where players can play it with the Epic Games Launcher. Players used to pay $19.99 USD to access the game from Steam, but when Epic Games acquired Psyonix, they made it completely free to play the game yippee!
2. Epic vs Steam
Epic Games is a straight competitor to the Steam Store, and of course, why would they want their players to use a competitor’s platform to access and play the game? The worst scenario for Epic is that whenever players make in-game purchases, direct commissions go into Steam’s pocket. So by removing their game from Steam, they secured their revenue.
3. Dominance
Every gamer knows Fortnite is owned by Epic Games and it’s still one of the best shooter, survival, and rhythm style game in our gaming industry. By providing Rocket League through the Epic Games Store, they just made another popular title theirs and showed their dominance in the industry.

It’s really difficult to say, but I’m pretty sure you won’t see Rocket League on the Steam Store again. Epic Games’ main titles, such as Fortnite and Fall Guys, are not available on any other gaming store or distributor. Let’s take this as an example – Epic Games bought Mediatonic in 2021. They are the original developer of the viral hit game Fall Guys. It is still a popular game under the Epic Games Store. After their deal, Epic removed Fall Guys from Steam and listed the title on their own Epic store. Fall Guys will never come back to Steam again for sure.
Same goes with Rocket League; you won’t see this game again on the Steam Store. Luckily, Old players who paid for it via steam can still access and play the game through their Steam library. New players can download the game through the Epic Games Store and can play the game with the Epic Games Launcher.
Reddit Users’ thoughts on this
I’ve been a Reddit user from last 10 years, and I always pay close attention to user reviews. There are a lot of unhappy players with this decision cause they think Steam is a lightweight client to launch the game for their PC systems.
On the other hand, new players are extremely happy because now they don’t have to pay a single penny to download the game. The game used to cost $19.99, but now anyone can download it for free through the Epic Games Store as it is free-to-play.
Many of reddit users say they really don’t care which platform owns it and where to play. They just want to play and enjoy the game, while still being happy with the decision.
Rocket League Steam FAQs
If you are an old player who paid for it through Steam store. Then yes, you can still play and access the game through your Steam library. And if you are a new player, you have to go to the Epic Games Store and install the Epic Games Launcher first, after that download the game for free.
No, as long as Epic is the owner of the Rocket League game, you won’t it on the Steam Store in the future.
Rocket League Steam keys are expensive because the game is delisted from Steam store. There are still a lot of players who want to play the game through Steam because they like its features, such as playtime tracking and all. The Unused keys are rare now, and if someone is selling one, it’s going to be expensive; they are in demand now.
